MTE recently completed this 4 Axle Semi Flat Top Trombone for Equipment & Transport Leasing Ltd (ETL Hire), manufactured by our Evans Engineering business in Tokoroa.

Built as a highly versatile transport platform for long, oversized and irregular loads, the Trombone features a substantial 8-metre front deck extension and 4-metre extending rear bumper, allowing the trailer to be configured around loads that extend well beyond the capabilities of a conventional flat-top semi.

Manufactured in Tokoroa

This trailer was manufactured at Evans Engineering in Tokoroa, part of the wider Modern Transport Group.

The build showcases the heavy trailer manufacturing capability available across the group, with Evans Engineering producing the 4 Axle Semi Flat Top Trombone to MTE specifications for the ETL Hire fleet.

Built to Go the Extra Length

The standout feature of this trailer is its Trombone-style extending deck.

From a closed deck length of just under 15 metres, the trailer incorporates an 8,000mm front extension, dramatically increasing the available length for transporting long and over-dimensional loads.

Extending Rear Bumper

The rear of the trailer has also been designed to extend.

A 4,000mm telescopic rear bumper with 1,000mm locking positions allows the rear extremity of the trailer to be adjusted to suit longer loads.

Container Capability

Despite its specialised extendable configuration, the trailer retains the versatility of a conventional flat top.

12 under-deck twist locks provide multiple ISO container configurations, allowing the trailer to carry:

  • 1 × loaded 20ft container
  • 2 × 20ft containers
  • 1 × 40ft container

When not carrying containers, the open deck is suited to machinery, construction materials and a wide variety of general and oversized freight.
